Ginger Hair History Legends and Myths All
Over the World
Red hair or Ginger hair as what they call it is
associated with many legends and myths from all over the world. There
are many cultures that had a red hair as part of their history. Since
the ginger hair is not a common natural color of hair, many are
intrigued and had created myths and legends that came with it.

In ancient Egyptians who are keen to having a god for
everything associated red haired animals and people with the god called
“Set”. It is also interesting to know that many of their pharaohs are
red headed. Included in that list of Pharaohs that have a red hair is
the Ramses who was known to be one of the most evil pharaohs of Egypt.
We are not sure if the myth that red haired individuals are feared and
revered because they are hot headed originated from this Pharaoh. But he
did certainly live up to that myth.
Ancient Egyptians also regarded ginger hair and red
colored hairs as bad luck or unlucky. In fact many red haired maidens
were burnt to death just to wipe out the tint. Some even says that red
heads were burnt alive. I guess this is the reason why Egyptians were
obsessed to having a long black hair before.
Scotland has the highest proportion of red hair with
13%of their population that have red hair and approximately 40% of them
have it in their recessive gene. The Scots are descendants of the Celts.
The Celts are famous to be a community of violent warriors. This again
led to another myth and legends that red haired individuals are fiery
and many strange fantastical belief and ideas about red hair.
The Greeks on the other hand believed that red hairs or
ginger haired individuals believed that people with ginger hair will
turn to a vampire after death. Even Aristotle, one of the famous Greeks
would have a negative comment about red heads. He would describe them as
un-housebroken; whatever he meant by that, it surely sounds negative.
In UK, the word “ginga” is used to describe red haired
individuals. They even came up with the term “gingerphobia” which means
fear of red heads. Another term is “gingerism” meaning prejudice against
red hair. They believed that red or gingered hair children are a
byproduct of unclean sex. What do we mean by unclean sex? It’s when you
made loved with your partner during your menstrual period.

Red hair or ginger hair ladies are also associated to be
sex goddesses and hot in bed. It’s a myth that never dies that red hairs
are highly sexed and have beastly sexual desire. It gives that extra sex
appeal that men are looking for. Having a red hair comes with a certain
mysterious effect and often leaves men intrigued. It’s no wonder many
ladies would dye their hair with hot red and ginger color.
It’s interesting to know the legends, myths and history
associated from ginger hairs all over the world. Most associate it with
negative connotations but they also represent power that many fear and
loath that a mere presence of a red haired individual threatens others.
